My junior year of high school, I cofounded CLIIC to discuss current local and international issues with other high school students. Our goal was to educate and motivate these students to take action within the greater community. We looked at many issues throughout the year, based upon members’ interests and the local/international issues in the news at that time.
Our long-term goal was to set up a TEDx event at our high school -- which we did on April 22, 2016 (pull down the ACTIVISM button to see information about the event).

For CLIIC's third event (December 11, 2015), we presented a documentary to our fellow high school students called "Losing Iraq". In the movie, a FRONTLINE investigative team traces the U.S. role from the 2003 invasion in Iraq to the current violence -- exploring how Iraq itself is coming undone, how we got here, what went wrong and what happens next. For CLIIC's second event (October 20, 2015), we hosted a question-and-answer panel debate with Toledo mayoral candidates. High school students and Middle school students attended the event, which was covered by the local media. Our event made the abc television nightly news program as well as the Toledo Blade newspaper that evening.

CLIIC's first event (October 15, 2015) featured Andre Norman, an inspirational speaker who has overcome a dark past full of abuse, illiteracy, gangs and prison. His experiences allow him to empathize with, challenge, and inspire those seeking personal change. His program, Project Footprints, teaches audiences how focus, purpose, and resilience can overcome challenges. His presentation was well-attended by the school and Toledo communities and was standing-room only.
